You can use either the controller/nunchuk combination, dance revolution pad or balance board. I've tried all three.
Controller: this burns the most calories and gives you the option of walking around the room instead of just walking in one spot. Walking in one spot can start to wear on you after a while. I think I burned a little over 300 calories per hour doing this. Don't trust the calorie burn the game tells you. ;-)
dance pad: easy to use but it tends to move a little and you have to walk in one place
Balance board: you can only lift your heels while using this. I burned hardly any calories even when doing this for an hour according to my Bodybugg. Also, your hip joints start hurting after a while. Not the best option. My Bodybugg barely showed me being active at all with the balance board.
In the game, you have to walk around an island in beat with the songs being played. You gather "chips" for each correct step. Those chips are then used to buy items for the island (benches, street lights, etc) or new paths. The goal is to add new routes and completely furnish the island.
It is pretty fun but not a great workout. My calorie burn was much greater with Just Dance. If you want to use this to burn calories I would suggest using the controller option instead of the balance board.
Rachel has really enjoyed the game though. At least she's being more active even if it's not exactly the workout you'd get with 30 Day Shred. :)

Today was the last day of Bootcamp on Sparkpeople. I loved it!!! Each day we had a 10 minute strength training video, a bonus challenge (which was usually pretty easy), and 5x a week we had to do 30 minutes of cardio.
I am proud to say that I did every single exercise and bonus challenge and cardio workout! Woohoo!

- can definitely see more muscle definition
- lost 8.2 pounds
- can fit in a smaller size
- wearing size 16 pants today!!
- I feel stronger
- I tried new things (Zumba)
- can finally do side planks
- enjoyed exercise
- looked forward to weigh in days!
It was a great experience. I'm kind of sad that it's over. Hopefully the February challenge will be a lot of fun as well.
I'm looking forward to challenging myself to do even more. I have definitely found a love for strength training. It just makes me feel so good afterwards!
I wish I had taken measurements because I can tell that I've lost inches. I even had to tighten up my Bodybugg arm strap. January was a great kick start to "thin in 2010!"

Took Charlie to the Y for PE. I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes at 5% incline. I guess it was 5%. I clicked the little incline button until it said 5. :)
On the way home I had to stop by the grocery store for a few essentials. I was hungry and they had samples everywhere. I had a few nibbles and counted it as 100 calories to make sure I covered everything.
Look what I found while I was at the store: cookie dough!!! All natural cookie dough. :)
And only 80 calories per cookie.
Worked out for 45 minutes doing Just Dance. Love that game! Also did my Bootcamp workout. Only 2 days left!
I also found Attune chocolate bars at the grocery store. I've seen Lori mention them on her blog a few times and was intrigued. They have 5x the live cultures as yogurt and are found in the yofurt aisle of your grocery store in a small box. Go to the web site to find out which stores near you carry it or order online. It's really good. It doesn't taste like "health food"! Oh, and it's only 80 calories. Yeah, a chocolate bar that's good for you AND low in calories. You're welcome.
Later I had a snack of Just Fruit Munchies. 1 0z is 100 calories and you get a large serving. I love these things. They're not like the usual dried fruit. They're crunchy!

Down 2 pounds!!!!!
Who lost 2 pounds this week? I did!
Whose shorts keep slipping down while she's walking? That would be mine!
Did my Bootcamp abs video which was actually very easy this time! Yeah, for progress!! There was also a bonus back extension video. Feel the burn, baby!
Time for Couch 2 5k (also known as C25K). I did week 2 for a little longer than a week because I wasn't ready to progress yet. Wednesday was Week 2 Day 3. Last day. You know what? It was actually a little easier. I didn't feel like giving up and a few times the little 90 second run session seemed to go by quickly. One day I will run all over that mile then go back for more. Can't wait!!!
I'm a little intimidated by week 3. Walk 5 minutes, jog 90 seconds, walk 90 seconds, jog 3 minutes, walk 3 minutes. Repeat but without the warmup. I can do it!
Chuck got home early and wanted to go to the range to practice shooting. I rode along to keep him company. :) By the time we left we were both hungry and neither wanted to cook (he was going to cook burgers) so we went out to Red Robin.
Now Red Robin is not exactly a friend to folks trying to lose weight. But they do have their nutritional info online and you can edit their stuff and see how it changes the nutritional values. A great tool! I find I do better if I view menus online before going out and decide what I'm going to have before I even leave the house. If I wait until I get to the restaurant I'm tempted by other things.
Made up my mind and went out. I stuck to what I had decided and got the fish sandwich (no tomatoes with tartar sauce on the side), a side salad (no tomatoes with balsamic vinaigrette on the side) and some apple slices. 784 calories. (sorry the pic didn't turn out...it's from hubby's cell phone)
Then we walked to Swirll for dessert. Yum!!!! Even better: Guilt-Free Yum!!!
I had the mango fro-yo with some chopped mangoes, a few blueberries and a couple of palm seeds. I'd never tried palm seeds before but they were very good! They're clear, kidney bean shaped and are kind of gummy and sweet. Very unique. One of my goals is to try something new every month. I think trying palm seeds counts. Well, that and zumba. So I exceeded my goals!! :)

And for those of you who think you could never take a Zumba class because you can't dance or you're not coordinated, think again. I couldn't dance to save my life. I have no rhythm. You do what you can at Zumba. There are people going different directions and modifying moves to make it doable. You do what you can. No one is paying attention to what you're doing because they're only focused on themselves and having a good time. Trust me. I was very nervous about going. If I can do it, YOU can do it. Try it. If you don't like it you don't have to ever do it again. But at least you can say you tried it and you burned some calories. :)
Dragged my poor abused body to the kitchen and toasted a CarbCheck bagel and topped it with some FF strawberry cream cheese. Washed it down with the daily SF Rock Star. Only 200 calories and I got a ton of protein and fiber in!
Logged on to Sparkpeople to get my Bootcamp video. I was nervous. I knew I was going to be in for a world of hurt if the exercises had anything to do with abs or the core in general. *whew!* It was the arms workout.
Oh wait! There is the daily Bonus Challenge! And today it's pushups. Why?! :( I pushed through 20 pushups. Yeah! Feel the burn, baby.
Had lunch: Amy's Fat Free Vegetable Alphabet soup and a few multigrain crackers. Very tasty and the soup is only 160 calories of yummy goodness. The taste always reminds me of Spaghettios. :)
For grins, I checked out my fortune on the scale. Gained 3 pounds? LOL I knew it before I even stepped on. Sore muscles plus some hormonal issues were going to cause a momentary weight gain. No worries. I know it's temporary and will go down. Chuck has been telling me that he can really tell I've lost weight. As long as my clothes are fitting better I'm happy! (stupid scale...doesn't know what it's talking about)
Took the kids on a field trip to see the Chronicles of Narnia exhibit at the museum. It was really pretty cool. You step into a room that looks like a set from the movie and the wardrobe opens by itself and you walk through the coats and then there is "snow" falling. There was an ice throne to sit on and LOTS of props from the movies.
Before we went in we went out to a playground that the kids wanted to try out. I got on one of the little spinning things that you stand on. Charlie thought it would be fun to spin me. I kept asking him to stop but he kept spinning me faster and faster. At this point I couldn't let go or I was going to get hurt. Finally we bonked heads. His head is made of stone. Mine tends to be a little softer and I started bleeding at my temple. Nice.
Got home and had a pear. Then it was time to do cardio. I'm still very sore and stiff. I did 33 minutes of Just Dance and burned about 300 calories. Woohoo!
Dinner was 98% FF hot dogs on sugar free whole wheat buns with some turkey chili. Served with some baked fries.
I still had 300 calories left in my daily calorie goal! So I had a small FF Greek yogurt with honey and stirred in some blueberries. Yum! Then an ice cream sandwich. Low cal of course!
Watched Biggest Loser while folding clothes. What is up with red team?! And why is green team so angry and moody all of the time? Hate the drama. I do like watching the weigh ins. I always imagine what number I would be at if I lost as much as each contestant. "OK, he lost 10 pounds. If I lost 10 pounds I would weigh ....." Wow! Can you imagine having a weigh in like that?!
I munched on a piece of sugar free angel food cake while watching the weigh in. Irony.
I'm hoping I won't be sore on Thursday. I'm either going to take Zumba again or go to spin class. Not sure which. Which one should I do? Is there a class you've wanted to take but haven't yet?

First thing, had my SF Rock Star. Priorities, you know. Then I did my BootCamp workout. I've noticed quite an improvement since starting. It used to be very hard for me to do the Monday exercises.
Then there was a challenge video: Butt Blaster. Just the name sounded frightening. It brought up thoughts of Colon Blow cereal. Any one remember that commercial from SNL? No? Ok, moving on. Finished exercise and I did feel the burn!
Breakfast: Kashi Go Lean and some skim milk
Time for school with the kids. They did great. I'm really proud of them :)
I made kale chips to go with my lunch. They're so easy and quick to make and you get a load of healthy stuff in them. Gotta get those veggie servings in!
First, you take a bunch of kale, wash it, then cut it into pieces removing the tough stems. I just tear mine apart into pieces.
Second, massage it with 1.5 tsp olive oil and about 1/4 tsp salt. I also add some Italian seasoning herbs. Spread out on cookie sheet. You don't want the kale to overlap.
Last, place in 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes. Check it at 10 minutes. You want it crispy but burned.

Who's done this? You go out to eat and chose the "wrong" things and the next morning feel guilty about it? Raise your hand. I know I'm not the only one who's done this!
Yesterday (Sunday) I was tired the entire day. I had big plans to go to go on a hike but we just never got around to it. We were all feeling lazy and sleepy. I did get my Bootcamp video done. It's an exercise that requires a lot of jumping which is very hard on my joints. I did the best I could but kept moving the entire time and got the heart rate up pretty good!!
Speaking of Bootcamp, this is the last week of the January Bootcamp!!!! I'm so happy to have done every single day plus the bonus challenges. Yeah!!!!
OK, back to what I was talking about. So yesterday I was very tired but I had to get grocery shopping done because I was not going to have time Monday. Got the shopping done (it always takes forever!) and came home to unload groceries. I was getting pretty hungry while shopping so I called my daughter and asked her to put the rice on to cook. Brown rice takes so long! When I got home there was a horrible terrible smell in the house. The rice had burned! Not just a little bit, I'm talking charred! Of course, my daughter felt terrible about it so we just decided to go out to eat. Mexican food. Not the healthiest of options, obviously. :)
Here's where things got ugly and yet tasty. You ready?
*chips and salsa
*1/3 of a chimichanga with grilled chicken
*some rice and beans (maybe half of the serving)
*two large Hurricanes (yes, I said two)
*two and a half sopapillas with honey
I calculated my calories as if I ate the entire meal just to be sure I wasn't missing a hidden calorie somewhere. They're sneaky, you know.
The morning after: wondering what I was thinking. LOL I'm not really upset because I have a RESET BUTTON. Oh, you haven't heard of those? They're absolutely fantastic. I'll share mine with you. All you have to do is exercise to burn off those extra calories and it's like they were never there. RESET!
Overate? Don't fret. RESET! Work those calories off! Go on a longer walk. Do some imaginary jump rope. Take a spin class. Try Zumba. Do an exercise DVD. Get active. Clean house. Everything you do burns calories. Pretty soon, you've hit RESET.
Of course, you don't want a lot of surplus calorie days. I'm just saying if you do slip or overindulge, you don't need to have a pity party or feel like "what's the point". Use your RESET and work those calories off. It's like it never happened. :)
Today I'll be working to get rid of a few surplus. I will NOT feel guilty. It's food, for crying out loud. It's not like I went and kicked somebody's dog. I just had a little too much fun last night. I'll pick right back up today with a good breakfast and lots of activity. No de-railment. No falling off the wagon.

Some statements I've been guilty of either saying out loud or in my head:
- "My ass is taking over the world."

- "You'll never be able to run a mile."
- "You've really let yourself go."
- "I don't like who I am."
- "I bet every one looks at how fat I am when I walk in a room."
- "Why can't you be like X? She/he lost weight so easily."
- "I'll never be able to (fill in the blank)."
- "Why bother putting on make up or getting dressed up? It's not like it will help you look any better!"
I'm not proud of the things I've said/thought. I'm just being honest with you. I've been making an effort to change negative thoughts for a while. But sometimes......well....they come back.
Just last week I was trying so hard to run. Others seemed to do it without much effort. Why is it so difficult for me? I give it my all and I mean that. I work hard. I push myself. It's still hard.
I have apparently forgotten how far I've come. I found my journal from when I first started to lose weight. I was 250 pounds. By the time I started keeping my journal I had lost about 10-15 pounds. I can't remember and I was too ashamed to actually record my weight.
- "I've lost 7 pounds! Doctor says blood pressure is high."
- "Today I blew it and went to IHOP. Feeling really bad about that."
- "Lazy and not feeling like dieting or exercising. Semi-trying to stick with it. Worked out to Biggest Loser #1. Still can't do a lunge or jumping jack. I'm going out to eat."
- "Paddled 8 miles today. An alligator growled at me!"
- "Today the scale is my friend: 10# gone. Feel good but am a little tired."
- "Jumped on trampoline a little. Didn't do any cardio like I should have."
- "I feel big and heavy today."
- "No exercise. I feel heavy, big, depressed and sleepy. Chuck ordered a Bodybugg for me!"
- "Someone commented that it looks like I lost weight!"
- "not much strength in legs. Struggled w/cardio."
- "went camping. walked 2 miles. My thighs chafed so bad on the hike and they hurt."
- "really tired today. Why haven't I lost my tummy yet?! Ate a Cafe Adobe. Oops."

Wow. The depression. The self hate. The negativity. It makes me sad. I wish I could somehow go back in time and comfort that person. I don't even feel like that was me. But it was. I remember writing those words now.
Look at how down I was because I could only jog for 12 seconds!!! Last week I jogged .3 of a mile. It's progress. I've lost 44 pounds. I'm happy. I love me for who I am right this minute....not who I'll be when I lose the weight.

Please don't use negative talk with yourself. Only positive. Keep pushing and never give up. Progress may be slow but it is progress.
I'm keeping my journal. It is a precious reminder of how far I've come and of a place I never want to be in my life again. I'm happy with how far I've come and look forward to pushing myself to progress even further.
I think blogging has been important in the journey as well. I can put my feelings out there and you guys are so supportive and offer suggestions. Thank you!!!
I think I'll go for a nice long walk with my family today and enjoy life. The journey is just as important as the destination.

I did my BootCamp video then hopped on the treadmill for the C25K Week2Day2 walk/run session. It was easier than the first time I did it. Yeah, I still felt like giving up a couple of times but I didn't. After sweating all over the place I did my Shake Weight workout for the arms. That thing cracks me up but I do feel a burn in the arms if I shake it long enough. (no comments, please. LOL)
Breakfast: oatmeal with a banana and a SF Rock Star (Rock on, Houston!)
Lunch: homemade tomato soup and cheese toast mmmmmm Ultimate comfort food
Then it was time to take the kids to their 4H meeting. Rachel is in the Vet Tech Science program. I have to find a vet who will take her as a volunteer so she can watch and learn. Any one know a willing vet in the Houston area?
After the meeting, it was time for dinner. I was so hungry. I had a No Pudge brownie as a quick snack.
Once a week we go out to eat. At that meal I have whatever I want and don't count a thing. Some people call it a cheat meal. I just call it living. I never feel deprived that way. I never have to think, "Gosh, I'll never be able to have X again because I'm changing how I eat forever." It has worked for me.
Tonight we went to T-Bone Tom's in Kemah. It was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on TV. Just for kicks I decided to order whatever I wanted but count the calories.
First we shared some fried pickles with Ranch. I had a few. Then I had the chicken fried steak finger basket. It had the steak fingers, steak fries, cream gravy and Texas toast. I had the toast, 3.5 fingers and some fries. To be on the safe side, I counted it as if I had eaten an entire chicken fried steak meal from Chili's.
After the meal, we all started feeling heavy and bloated. Guess our bodies have adapted to eating healthier foods. It wasn't food poisoning or anything like that. It was just a greasy, salty meal. It doesn't even sound good now. If I had it to do over, I would have ordered something else. Something a little healthier? Gasp!!
Perhaps my tastes are changing. My body sure is! When I woke up this morning (Saturday) it felt like I had a hangover. Can you even have a food hangover?
I don't feel guilty about going out. That's just something we do. But I did learn a lesson. :)
After our tummies settled a little last night, we had a family Wii tennis tournament. Chuck won. Then we had a Just Dance dancing tournament. OMG, that was hilarious!!! Rachel won! Then we all watched a movie together. A very nice evening.
This morning I got on the wicked scale just to read my fortune and it said +3 pounds. Now, I know that's just from the greasy, sodium-filled meal. It'll drop back down. But it is a good reminder.

Then I wake up. Reality is quite different.
Today I was reading so many posts about people running and how far they go and how good they feel. I want it so badly. I know that I will get there but sometimes I don't see the progress. That is until I think back to when I was 250. It hurt to just live. It hurt to walk to the end of the block. We would try to go on family walks at the state park but have to cut it short because my back would hurt. I'm not that person any more.
But after reading those posts about others running I got up, laced up the shoes, warmed up and ran (jogged) for .3 mile. At first I was disappointed that that was all I could do. But today's bonus challenge on SparkPeople BootCamp is NO NEGATIVE TALK. SO I changed it to: Yeah! I just reached 30% of my goal to run a mile!!!!! And I felt so much better. It's amazing how we talk to ourselves changes our attitudes to positive or negative.
I'm really happy to have ran that distance. Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll be at 50% of my goal. Each little bit is a "step" in the right direction. :)
Thanks for celebrating my victory with me. I look forward to making my dream a reality. It'll happen this year. It will.

Did my SP BootCamp video twice since it was only 5 minutes long. It worked the abs which is my weakest area.
Did my C25K Week2Day1 run. I tell ya, I felt like I was going to die. Does this get any easier? I really want to be able to run but right now it is so difficult. I'm not going to give up but it is frustrating sometimes. I don't feel that I am any closer to running 1 mile. I'm sure I'll get there in time. I just want it NOW! :) I also want to be able to cross the finish line for my March 5k. It seems pretty daunting.
I also danced for an hour to Just Dance. I love that game. I cna't help but laugh and smile while doing those goofy moves. I have no rhythm which makes it even funnier. But it's fun and I burn calories.
Rachel made up a batch of No Pudge Brownies. LOOK! I found them in raspberry flavor. Oh yeah. They're good. Reeeeeaaaaal good. For dinner I made a recipe from the Jan/Feb 2010 issue of Cooking Light: Rosti Casserole with Baked Eggs. With 5 oz of Gruyere cheese it's absolutely delicious. Even my potato hating son ate all of his. Loved it. After dinner we went out to Swirll fat free frozen yogurt. It's all self serve. You get a cup and fill it up as much as you want with whatever flavored yogurt you want. It's all soft serve. Then you add whatever toppings you want from the topping bar and then they weigh it and charge you based on weight. The kids love going here. I chose snickerdoodle flavor then added kiwi and strawberry. YUM! And it was only 28 calories per ounce. I got 4 oz. Don't know what the deal is but I was starving yesterday. I stayed within my calorie intake guidelines but I felt like a bottomless pit. I was also exhausted from the run. So instead of being tempted by leftover rosti casserole I just went to bed. :)

Did my BootCamp challenge video first thing so it would be out of the way. Fortunately it was the arms workout which is my favorite. I think I like it because I can actually do it!
Breakfast: Sugar Free Rock Star & Reduced Sugar Brown Sugar Cinnamon Oatmeal
Took the kids to their Junior Master Gardener class. They get to do some really cool activities and learn all about plants (which I can kill pretty quickly) but it takes an hour for me to drive there and then the class is 2 hours long. It's only twice a month though. The things we do for our kids.
Got home and had a very late lunch.
Lunch: leftover Creamy Cheese Soup; Country Time Lemonade mix for my water
For cardio I danced for an hour to Just Dance for Wii. I burned 578 calories!
Dinner: baked potato with leftover pulled pork, cheese and some FF Ranch; big salad
Snacks: 100 calorie Klondike bar; 100 calorie popcorn; no sugar added peaches cup
Before I got my shower I made Rachel dance some more with me. I think we did 8 songs. It was fun. She's so much better than I.
Watched Biggest Loser. I was disappointed with how lazy Michael seems. He's really going to have to step it up or he'll be going home. I was also amazed that the lady threw her last two weigh ins! Then lied about it! She ticked off both Bob and Jillian. I bet you anything she has a big loss next week.
Did you know there is a Biggest Loser Resort? Don't expect a relaxing spa experience. noooo. You pay $ 1995 for 1 week or $ 7200 for 7 weeks. Part of me is curious and the other part says, "don't even think about it!" My checkbook sides with the latter. :)

I recently read a blog of someone who got to meet Abby and Shay from last season's Biggest Loser. She asked them about their calories while on the show. Both of the ladies said they ate 1200 calories per day and had to burn 5000 calories (for Abby) and 6500 calories (for Shay) per day! That's how they get those great numbers! They also work out 4-6 hours per day. Yikes!
My calorie burn target per day is 2750 which is very reasonable but sometimes difficult for me to reach. A couple of times last week I got into the 3000s.
I've always wondered what it would be like on the Biggest Loser. I've wondered if I would survive. I know Jillian would be perched on a treadmill ready to pounce on me like prey and yelling.....which I'd probably find funny. It always cracks me up when she starts yelling. She would hate me. I've seen the contestants crying from exhaustion and throwing up on their first workout.
I think I'm ready to bring the pain. I want to know what it feels like for one day to burn 5000 calories. I already eat about 1250 calories per day. I just want to know....just one day. I'll have to plan in advance because that will definitely be a "me" day. It'll take time to get that kind of burn. You can be certain that I'll let you know as soon as I do it. I'm sure it'll be soon.
Monday I had to brave the grocery store on MLK Day. All of the kids were home from school and folks were home from work. I guess they all decided to go grocery shopping at once while I was there. It was pure madness.
I did my 10 minute strength training on SP and a bonus challenge video of pilates for the lower body. I could feel the burn in my bum. It is so sore today. Glad to share that with you. :)
Then I did my Week 1 day 3 of C25K. For some reason my legs felt very heavy. I felt like a T-Rex from Land of the Lost running. *boom* *boom* *boom* with each step. With the walk/run combo I got in 2 miles in 30 minutes. I'm wondering if running ever gets easier. Each 60 second jog was tough. I don't get it. Shouldn't I be improving a little?
My goal is to be able to run a mile. I actually have dreams that I'm running that mile and I'm not winded at all. Another goal is to run a 5k with Shelley in March. It'll be great to meet her. Things are going to have to pick up the pace around here if I am to reach either goal!
For fun, here is a picture of me coming up to the finish line of my first 5k in the summer of 2007 when I was 230 pounds. I thought I was going to die. A policeman asked me if I wanted a ride even though I wasn't the last person in the race. I must have looked pretty bad. LOL But I did it and I got a tee shirt and a popsicle. :) I still have that number tag.
After running I did 30 minutes of Just Dance on the Wii. A fun way to boost that calorie burn!
I'm always looking for the 4% fat ground beef but I have trouble finding it. It used to not be a problem! Well look what I found: 2% fat ground beef! It only has 120 calories per 4 oz and 2g of fat. That's practically like having chicken! I used it to make spaghetti last night. Paired it with a big salad and a piece of New York Texas Garlic Toast Lite. That garlic toast melts in your mouth and is sooooo good.

I started using it and joined the January Boot Camp a couple of weeks ago. I lost 3.5 pounds this week! I feel great. I'm happy! I feel like I am reaching my goals. The best part about it is the community. You meet such marvelous folks who cheer you on and want you to succeed. You can even find a "buddy" so you can keep each other accountable.
The book, The Spark, is based upon all of the great advice from the web site. But it's more. It's motivational and it takes the road to a healthy lifestyle one small step at a time. You rejoice in each goal reached. And you can do it!
No matter what plan you are on to lose weight, you can use this book. The motivation alone is worth the price!
Part of the Spark philosophy is to "spread the Spark." In my effort to spread the Spark, I'm giving away THE SPARK book.

This morning I got up after having Mexican food and Mexican Hurricanes last night and got on the scale. Why? I have no idea. Maybe because I'm weak for the scale. Whatever the reason I did it.
So I'm down 3.5 pounds!! Yeah, I know. I couldn't believe it! That's a heck of a loss. Now I'm down to 209.2. I'm looking forward to getting down to 195 which was my weight before I derailed in July.
I've been faithful to tracking my calories in and calories burned. I make sure to create at least a 500 calorie deficit per day. I will not lower my calories below 1250 because I just don't think that's reasonable or healthy. At least for me.
I think doing the SparkPeople Bootcamp has been great for my loss as well. We do 10 minutes of strength training per day (doesn't seem like much but I am living in a constant state of soreness so something is getting worked out!) and 30 minutes of cardio 5x per week. I don't feel hungry or deprived.
Well, I'm a happy camper today! :)

After about an hour I had burned 665 calories. I'd rather burn my calories using this than an exercise DVD! Loads of fun. Really. I'll have to post a picture of us doing this. I had to force the kids to do it with me but I think they enjoyed it too. They were self conscious about dancing. :)
The healthy life is going great. I've been tracking everything and watching my calorie burn. I've been faithful to the SparkPeople BootCamp and have completed all workouts plus the bonus challenges plus the cardio.
I've also started the Couch25K program. I'm on Week 1 Day 2 right now. It's tough for me. I don't think I'm a natural runner but I really want to be able to run a 5k. I keep having dreams that I run a mile without breathing hard or struggling. I know I'll get there eventually.
I have some YUMMY recipes for you! The Crockpot Pulled Pork is my favorite. Oh it's so good. It really tastes like it should be high calorie and high points but it's not!
Creamy Cheese Soup (6 pts; 272 calories) It may seem a little high in points but you get a HUGE serving: 1 1/2 cups. It's very filling and good. I served it with some crackers and a salad. Follow the link if you'd like the recipe.
Crockpot Pulled Pork (3 pts; 219 calories) The calorie/point count does not include the bun. It's just for a 3 oz serving of pork. That's it.
This stuff is so incredible. Do yourself a favor and make this! It would be heavenly on a baked potato. It makes a lot but you can freeze half of it. Incredible flavor. It really doesn't taste low point! My favorite BBQ sauce to use for this is Cattlemen's Steakhouse BBQ Sauce. That's what I used to figure out the calories/points. Cattlemen's is 60 calories per Tbs. If you use something else you will need to take that into account. Follow the link above for the recipe.
Broccoli Crunch Casserole (1 pt; 103.7 calories)
This is a lot like a broccoli cheese casserole but light on the cheese. It's very good and looks pretty plus you get a large serving. This recipe makes 8 servings. Whatever size casserole dish you use, just divide it into eighths. I think it tastes best with a little more salt. A very good, easy side dish to make. Follow the link above for the recipe.
I've been good about NOT weighing in. I want to wait until the end of the BootCamp because the scale can be such a downer. I did sneak a peak though. It was early. I had just woken up so my eyes weren't working right just yet and I don't have a digital scale. I could see that there was a loss though!
Yesterday I burned 3292 calories and only consumed 1302 calories! That's a deficit of 1990 calories. If science is correct, that means I lost over half a pound yesterday. :) Very happy about that.

I am NOT going to weigh myself until the end of the Bootcamp. The scale just depresses me anyway. I can tell you that I feel a lot better! Thursday is my normal weigh in day and I'm having a tough time staying away from that scale for a sneak peak.
It's probably better that I don't peak. Today I went into a dressing room to try on some clothes. It didn't go well. I feel like I need a hug after that experience. It was quite traumatic for me. Hello?! Dressing room designers: please make the lighting friendlier. I swear those rooms were designed by the devil.
New Goal: make the dressing room my friend.
Glad I got that off my chest. It was bothering me.
Last night I made a really good and easy dinner. Took some Pilgrim's Pride grilled chicken and put it on top of some brown rice that I mixed with Laughing Cow cheese and spinach. Also topped the chicken with some Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce. SO good! I also found some fresh veggies in a beg at Kroger int he produce section. All you have to do is toss the bag in the microwave! I added some spray butter and some garlic powder. Added a slice of bread because I just wanted some. :)
Calories Burned: 2358
Calorie intake: 1450
Deficit of 908.
Why is it soooo easy to gain weight but soooo difficult to lose it? *sigh* Oh well. We're worth the effort. :)

Curious what a week in bootcamp looks like? Well, even if you're not I'm going to tell you anyway.
Sunday: do exercise video for 10 minute cardio (it was tough for me. see if you can do it!)
Monday: do 8 minute lower body with ball workout plus 30 minutes of cardio of your choice
Tuesday: 8 minute upper body with ball workout plus 30 minutes of cardio if your choice
Wednesday: 5 minute core workout with ball (I do it twice) plus 30 minutes of cardio
Thursday: 10 minute lower body workout plus 30 minutes of cardio of your choice
Friday: 6 minute upper body workout with ball plus 30 minutes of cardio if your choice
Saturday: 15 minute abs workout
Each day has a different bonus challenge. It can be as simple as eating more fiber for the day to eating a salad to doing an extra workout video. The exercise routine repeats weekly for the month of January.
I've decided not to weigh myself until after the challenge. The scale can be cruel even when we are putting our best efforts out there. One thing for sure is that I am feeling great!
At this point in my weight loss journey I have lost 37 pounds. Yesterday I had to get 30 pounds of ice to take to Rachel's chemistry class. I was thinking how heavy those 30 pounds were while carrying them to the van when it hit me like a ton of bricks: this is how much weight you have lost! Actually, I've lost more but still. I can't believe that was hanging off of me. And I still have a long way to go. I can't imagine how much lighter I'm going to feel.
When you start to feel bad about not losing enough weight, try picking up something that weighs as much as you have lost. It's a real eye opener. Think of a box of butter. That's a pound! I've lost 37 boxes of butter. LOL
I have also been tracking my food religiously. I know me and I know that I will not track in the future. So why even start? Because I am using this as a tool to get to my goal. If I ever need to cut back on some pounds I can pick up that tool (tracking) and get right back to where I need to be. It will also teach me about portion sizes and what healthy eating looks like. It should become second nature to me.
Yesterday, right before dinner, I almost had a binge happen. I was really hungry but didn't want to eat anything because dinner was going to be ready in 20 minutes. I ate a small piece of chocolate (and tracked it) and that was almost it for me. Then I grabbed a handful of cereal (tracked it lol) and was so ready to go berserk in the pantry. But I remembered something I saw on Biggest Loser once. They said to eat a piece of gum to help curb cravings. I did and, sure enough, it worked!! I was shocked. Disaster averted.
Speaking of dinner, I picked up some Gorton's Grilled Lemon Peppercorn Tilapia at the grocery store yesterday. They were really, really good! Even the kids ate all of theirs and would have eaten more had I bought more. They are only 80 calories each or 2 points. I paired it with a salad with some spray dressing and some Green Giant steamers corn in butter sauce. Also had a Sister Shubert whole wheat roll. They're found in the freezer section at the store. They are 140 calories so beware.

Not only have I been tracking my foods religiously but I have also been wearing my trusty bodybugg again.

If I need to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound, I have 1349 calories left to burn. I love science!

I've been a little obsessed with these breakfast sammies lately. Take 1/4 cup egg substitute, 1 Laughing Cow cheese wedge and 1 Tbs of bacon bits (25 cals per Tbs) and put in bowl. Microwave for about a minute and put on 100 calorie english muffin. SO good and so filling! And it's done in less than 5 minutes.
A couple of weeks I got eyelash extensions done at Ulta. The chick took 5 hours to put them on and they just weren't as full as they should have been. Yesterday I went to a different place and had her fix them up pretty and she only charged me $30! No mascara and I have beautiful full lashes. I LOVE them. :)
Each day I want to do something for me. I'm bad about taking care of myself. I wear the same thing day in and day out. Doing something for me doesn't have to be anything major. It can be something as simple as shaving my legs or putting on eye wrinkle eraser or something like that. Even whitening my teeth or trimming my toenails!
Yesterday I had my eyelashes done. Today I am whitening my teeth (actually doing it while I type this entry) This is besides doing the bootcamp at SparkPeople.com which is the biggest thing I could do for myself!
Bootcamp is going great. I haven't missed a single day. Today I really don't feel like doing the cardio but I am going to do it anyway. I know I would be disappointed in myself if I didn't do it.
I've been staying on plan and watching what I eat. I've also started wearing my Bodybugg again and monitoring calories burned. And tomorrow I am starting the Couch 2 5K program because I want to run with my buddy over at My Journey to Fit.
That's about it for today. Sorry but I'm just not feeling the blogger vibes right now. I'm going to bed early and getting rest. Hopefully I'll feel back to the same old me tomorrow.
