Ham Casserole

Woe is me. Just when I thought I was completely over my infection it came back on me but not with the same force. I'm giving myself until Monday then I'm putting myself out of my misery....by going to the doctor.

I've been in a great mood though. I'm a little, tiny bit bummed because we had tickets for the observatory at Brazos Bend for tonight and hubby thinks it would be best if I just stayed home and rested. I think he secretly didn't want to go. :)

This Sunday is my baby Charlie's 10th birthday. I know I'm sounding like a broken record but where does the time go?! Jeez. We'll be taking a field trip to the Dessert Gallery where he will get a free slice of cake for his birthday. I'll take pictures to share with y'all.

Speaking of pictures, have you noticed that my pictures haven't been too terrific lately? That's because they're all taken with a cell phone. The big mac-daddy camera (yo) is at home with my in-laws. It really belongs to them but they let us use it all the time which I am grateful for. Those things cost an arm and a leg. I'm willing to pay a toe or a finger but an arm and leg are just too much.

How about a new and easy and quick recipe to try!

It made a great dinner served with a salad and roll. Even the kids cleaned their plates.

I used Healthy Choice soup, lean Boar's Head deli ham, Ronzoni Smart Taste pasta, and reduced fat Velveeta to help cut back on the calories.
This makes a lot!! You will have leftovers for lunches.

Ham Casserole
.
1 box Ronzoni Smart Taste noodles
1 cup corn, drained
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1/3 cup skim milk
1 cup chopped cooked lean ham
3/4 cup diced low fat cheese
1 can low fat cream of celery
.
Cook noodles. Combine well with remaining ingredients. Turn into greased baking dish and bake, covered, at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. OR, to make things super duper quick (like I did) heat in the microwave for about 5 minutes, stir, and heat for 4-5 more minutes. Stir then serve. Very yum.

Lemon Cake

Ha! Finally, a new recipe to share. :)

This is not low calorie nor is it low carb. It is high flavor and oh-so-yummy. It's so good that I had one piece (not this one, mine was smaller) and sent the rest to work with Chuck. I wouldn't want that stuff to tempt me all day. But life's too short not to enjoy good food. Just in smaller quantities.

The cake only takes a few minutes to whip up and makes the house smell so warm and homey.

No, not that kind of homey.
Anyway, enjoy the cake.
Special Lemon Cake

1 package yellow cake mix
4 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. lemon extract
3/4 cup veggie oil
1 package lone Jell-O, dissolved in 1 cup hot water

Icing:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 Tbs. lemon juice

Mix cake ingredients well. Bake in greased and floured 9x13 pan in 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes. When done, prick with a fork.

Mix icing ingredients and put on top of warm cake. Some of it will sink into the pricked holes.


I went strictly by the recipe this time but next time I'm going to try to lower the calories by using yogurt or applesauce in place of the oil and egg substitute in place of the whole eggs. Maybe I'll use one of the reduced sugar cake mixes as well.

I didn't exercise again. I'm giving myself this week off to make sure the UTI has fully healed. I do not want a relapse!

Multi-Cultural Weekend

I'm feeling soooo much better! Those UTIs are extremely painful. I thought I was going to die on Monday. Glad it's over.

You may have heard about a corpse flower named Lois that Houston has been going gaga over. She has lived at the Houston Museum of Science for 6 years and was making her blooming debut. Thursday night at 10pm we decided that the time was right to go see her. She had bloomed and she had a foul smell going on. How could I possibly miss this?!

It seems that a lot of other Houstonians had the same idea. The earliest tickets I could get were for 12:45am. No problem. I buy my tickets online and we wait for our time.

My sleepy family arrives at the museum around 12:30am to pick up the tickets and wait in line. You would not believe the lines to see this flower! People who did not order their tickets online were waiting 3 hours to see this plant.

Here is a video of the event. You'll also see one of the more....colorful...visitors to the museum who dressed up in a corpse flower outfit and sat in a pot so people could take pictures. Did he/she lose a bet? I wasn't going to ask.

Friday morning we got home at 2am and crawled into bed. Within a few hours it was time for Chuck to drive to Beaumont for a job interview. Some friends he went to high school with own a business and they wanted to talk to him. It might be a good opportunity but I'm kind of hoping that we stay in Houston. This is home now even though I grew up in the Beaumont area.

We left the kids at my mom's to enjoy some swimming before summer ends then Chuck and I made the 2 hour drive back home. We were pretty sleepy.

That night we took advantage of the opportunity for a date night and went to Cafe Pita Plus for some Bosnian food. Yum!!! It was a small, crowded and hot place but the food was great. The restaurant was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I didn't take a picture. Sorry. :(

Saturday we slept in late getting some much needed sleep. Then we had the great idea to go to an Indian buffet at Cuisine of India. This is some of the best food I've had. I highly recommend it. I only got one plate and some kheer (rice pudding) and some spiced tea. It was all wonderful and full of flavor.

Chuck and I just enjoyed a lazy day and went to a couple of shops. We also bought Charlie's birthday gift. Yeah!

After a while we decided to go out for a different type of dinner. We had dessert for dinner! I know! How bad are we? LOL

Meet the Dessert Gallery. You can't really see it in the picture but on the top shelf are two containers of cookie dough that you can buy by the scoop. The cakes and pies can be purchased by the slice. They also have sandwiches and appetizers and coffees.Chuck got a yellow cake with chocolate frosting and a double macchiato. I got a chocolate raspberry cake with a double macchiato. Ohhh....so sinfully good. NO, I didn't feel the least bit guilty. :) And there was no way we could eat the whole slice. Way too sweet to do that. Afterwards we went and looked at books at the bookstore and then around 10pm we went our for some Mexican food and margaritas. What a great day. Do I even need to say that I wasn't counting calories?

Sunday we slept late again then lazily got ready to go for a hike. We wanted to try somewhere different so I suggested a section of the Lone Star Hiking Trail. There was a clear stream surrounded by white sand that I wanted to try to find.

I never did find that stream because I took a left when I should have taken a right in the woods. We still had a nice 6 mile hike in the 100 degree weather.

Some of the trail was well kept and clear. Some of the trail was a little more overgrown. Between us we picked off 3 ticks after the hike. We could smell wild hogs at one point (they have a distinct scent) but we never saw them. We heard birds and bugs and crickets as the day grew later.

We even got to see this unusual luna moth. Very cool. It felt good to get out on a long-ish hike. I wouldn't mind doing something like that every day. It gets kind of boring walking in the neighborhood and lately we've been having a lot of rain anyway.

And early Monday morning I woke up with the beginnings of a UTI and by late morning I was in excruciating pain. I'm on antibiotics and doing much better now.

Well, we're pretty much caught up now. I have some new recipes planned and if they turn out ok I'll be sharing them with you. :)

UTI

I wanted to check in because it's been a while. Last week was pretty uneventful in every way possible so I didn't have much to write about. Then things really picked up on Thursday evening but I have developed a UTI and the pain is about to drive me up the wall.

I'll post some pics and updates as soon as I am a little better.

Thursday Steps to a Better Me

Thursday started extra early for me. I heard Chuck leave for work at 6am and I woke up and decided to go for a walk. Was I ill?! I don't do mornings.

I stumbled to the closet and put on my shoes then strapped on my huge Garmin Forerunner. Hmmm....wonder if they make a Forewalker?

Mornings are such an interesting time. The birds are singing and flying about. It must be wonderful to wake up each morning and sing your heart out. I guess they're just happy to have made it to live another day.

The sun had not officially made its appearance yet but the sky was glowing and bright. I walked to the new running track in the neighborhood which is already starting to show signs of neglect. Weeds have overgrown portions of the trail and there were some serious erosion problems on a couple of small rises in the trail. At the back of the trail are tall weeds in a prairie-like setting. Walking towards it I could see the fog of humidity in the early light. I then had to question if it was really humidity or a cloud of mosquitoes. Bloodsucking bugs are such a great motivator to walk quickly. There was an immense black fog following me. I heard a meadowlark singing his heart out and I wanted to stop to try to spot him but the mosquitoes made it clear that if I should stop I would become a buffet for them. Not wanting to become any one's breakfast, I continued on my hurried walk.

Somewhere along the way the sun made its grand entrance. Beautiful. On the still lake was a lone duck swimming making a "V" in the water as it glided effortlessly. The huge sun was peaking above the horizon right in front of the duck which made a wonderful photo op. My camera was not with me though. Bummer.

Along the sidewalks were huge 3" slugs trying to cross the cement desert to manicured lawns. I decided to them across as I came to them. Otherwise they may bake as the sun rose or ants might attack them or an unobservant person might trample them. I picked a few up and tossed them in to a yard then realized my hands were covered in salty sweat. I hope my benevolence didn't kill them!

I'm not quite sure what happened but about 45 minutes into my walk I started to notice a rub on the back of my heel. I've worn these shoes for a while so I don't understand why they were rubbing. Whatever the reason, I have a big sore spot on the back of my left heel now.

In all I walked 3.4 miles and it felt great. My right hip joint did feel kind of quirky sometimes but I just kept going.

I showered, grabbed a Sugar Free Rock Star and finished reading Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife. According to the author's findings, the only spirits in the afterlife appear to be vodka and rum. I still have to hold on to the "energy is neither created nor destroyed" theory.

"Fame! I'm gonna live forever. I'm gonna learn how to fly--high! I'm gonna make it to heaven. Light up the sky like a flame. Fame! I'm gonna live forever. Baby, remember my name."

Mostly I can't even begin to imagine the idea of just ceasing to exist. It gives me comfort to think that I will be with Chuck forever. To think otherwise would just be too depressing.

I wish you could have been here for dinner. It was fantastic: roast beef, vegetable medley, rolls, rice and gravy. I'm going to share the roast recipe with you because it's just too darn easy and delicious not to make it. So do try it if you don't mind the fact that it uses some packaged goodies.

Unbelievably Good Crock Pot Roast

1 roast
1 package Italian dressing mix
1 package Ranch dressing mix
1 package brown gravy mix
1/2-3/4 cup warm water

Place the roast in a crock pot and sprinkle the mixes over the top. Pour water over all and turn crock pot to LOW. I put mine in at 11am and it was falling apart by 6pm.

I like to serve it over rice and pour some of the gravy over the top. Let me know what you think if you try it.

Rachel had a driver's ed class. I'm so happy that it's nearly over but not nearly as happy as she is! I'm a little disappointed with some of the teachers this company has hired. Last night she had an instructor who is an older man and spends way too much time telling the kids about how wealthy he is and that every one in his family is a genius. He has a huge house, expensive cars, blah blah blah blah. Oh, and he only teaches driver's ed because he likes teaching. Riiiiiight. Sorry but truly intelligent people don't need to go around bragging about it. They know better. Usually. But I don't need this guy using the time that I paid for to try to coax "wows" out of kids to feed his insecurity.

The evening was nice and quiet. Watched a couple of Bones episodes and started a new book: Anthropology of an American Girl.

Wondering what I can do to go for a walk without further irritating the sore on the back of my heal. A Band-aid maybe? We'll see. No matter what I'm going for a walk. :)

Other news: Chuck received a job offer in Beaumont, TX. It would have to be an "offer I couldn't refuse" to get me to move away. We'll see. The "official" interview will be next Friday.

Houston is on watch for the blooming of a rare corpse flower at the museum. There is a live camera and the center is open 24 hours. The plant has been on the news and it's being discussed on the radio and Twitter. You know it's a big deal if it makes it to Twitter.

"The "Corpse Flower" (Amorphophallus titanum) gets its name from the pungent stench it emits in bloom - this, combined with the flower's huge size and deep purple color, convinced the first explorers who encountered it in Sumatra to believe it was a man-eating plant! Since then, this extremely rare plant has gained celebrity status by having one of the largest, rarest, and smelliest flowers in the world. These flowers can reach heights of 7-10 ft and a diameter of 5-6 ft. "

You know that I can't miss this. I'm waiting for Lois (of course they named her) to bloom and then I'll be dragging the family along to the museum to see a flower and experience the rotting corpse smell. Fun! Wanna come?

Tots Made of Taters

Tuesday was another uneventful day which can be nice. I say "uneventful" though I do feel like I kept busy. There just weren't any adventures or surprises.

I cleaned a bathroom that needed it. I love Pinesol. I felt like I was standing in a pine forest bathroom after I was finished cleaning.

Rachel needed to practice her driving so we went to a high school parking lot and I tried to keep my mouth closed as we drove in circles and practiced parking and backing up. Inside I was screaming, "Watch out for that pole! Holy crap! Must you take the corners on two wheels?! Brakes should be applied gently." In the end I said, "Wow, you are really improving. You may want to practice coming to a stop as gently as possible. Pretend there is an egg on the seat that you don't want to roll to the floor (or fly through the windshield) and crack." I say the driving was a success. We went home on speaking terms and no one was angry.

That evening I dropped Rachel off at her driving school and headed home to cook tater tot casserole. I was in such a rush to serve up dinner that I completely forgot to take a picture! Oh no! Fortunately I have one here along with the recipe.

A few minutes after we ate it was time to get Rachel. She only has 3 days left of class. We're both very excited about that.

Got home about 8:20 and Chuck and I went for a walk. Neither of us was really in the mood. After a long day and having dinner we were both tired and ready to relax. But we coaxed each other in to doing it (actually he told me to put on my shoes and let's get it over with) and hit the streets.

As soon as we were outside Chuck said, "I really don't want to do this." I assured him that he was not using proper walking buddy talk and would have to be more positive in the future if we were to make this whole walking thing work.

We had a nice time. Chatted about people's yards and cars. We walked to the front lake and there we picked up some "friends." Mosquitoes. By the flock. Or herd? Or drove? Pack? I don't know but I do know that there was a black fog following us. It's amazing what a motivator those bloodsuckers can be. I do believe we even broke into a jog for a little while as we tried to escape our new friends. In all we walked 2.1 miles. Not too bad for a couple of people who just wanted to feel lazy. Today he called and said, "Are we going to do it again tonight?" You bet.

Got home, cleaned up and settled down to watch The Time Traveller's Wife. I had read the book a while back and enjoyed it though it was sad. I hate going to bed depressed. Tonight I think I'll watch AFV or something like that. After my walk. :)

The Boots were Made for Walking

Happy Tuesday to ya!

As you can see, I've been away from the computer lately. I just wanted to take a little break from it. It seems like every time I get online the time slips away and I spend hours browsing around and reading blogs and expanding my wish list on Amazon.

I've been keeping busy though. The kids do their school work through the summer (we homeschool) because we do so much throughout the year and take other days off. It works for us. I've learned a lot by teaching them. As with anything, it has its good sides and bad sides and I don't think it's for everyone.

I've been very busy (and slightly stressed about) planning Rachel's Freshman year. I need to make sure that she has a diverse transcript. She will be taking private art lessons and participate in a Gavel Club (giving speeches, learning leadership), Dance Committee, Latin, Spanish, Biology along with a biology lab group, writing/grammar/literature analysis, world history, PE, and some other stuff. Next year she'll take a psychology class as an elective. She also has to do a LOT of volunteer work with vets to work towards her vet tech certification.

For some reason she lacks self confidence. Maybe it's the age. She hasn't felt that she was very smart even though she makes straight A's and I am not lenient on my grading at all. But she has never really had anyone to compare herself with. That's good and bad, I suppose. Rachel has been taking a Driver's Ed class with a large group of people and is starting to realize now that she really does have a good head on her shoulders. Some of these kids have trouble even reading or picking out signs. It's kind of sad actually.

Charlie is smart but just doesn't care about anything. He does only what he absolutely has to do to get by and it drives me crazy. Where's the initiative? Where's the drive to learn more? And then sometimes he completely surprises me.

OK, enough rambling about the kids. Let's talk about exercise and stuff like that.

Chuck and I are going to be walking buddies. It hurts like hell when I run but I do just peachy when I walk. My idea is to walk my ass off (literally) and drop some more pounds and try to pick up running again. It's not fun when it hurts so bad afterwards. I really thought that it was hurting because I was a newbie and my body had to get used to it. Well, I've been running for a while (sometimes 5 miles!) and the pain still exists for a couple of days afterwards. It doesn't matter what surface I run on, it still hurts. And it's not the shoes. If it still hurts even after I've lost more weight then I am going to visit the doctor for some tests. Chuck would probably say that I should go now but what can they really tell me? "You're developing arthritis in your hips so it will hurt when your run. Now that will be $300." I'll wait and test my way first.

Years ago I had taken up walking with a couple of friends. We would meet in a neighborhood and walk for a while. We weren't worried about distance or pace or time. We just walked and talked and gossiped. It was something I actually looked forward to! In a few weeks I was feeling great.

I had a baby (Rachel), a full time job, and was taking classes part time at a university. I'd take classes during my lunch break and at night. With my busy schedule it became increasingly difficult to walk with my friends. One friend and I started meeting at the high school track at 4:30am every morning during the week to walk. We'd walk for 45 minutes to an hour and then head home. I'd get my shower, take Rachel to my mom's house, go to work, go to school, get Rachel, go home to cook and do homework.

I lost weight (no idea how much because I didn't own a scale) and felt great and had energy to do everything in my busy schedule. But when my head hit the pillow at night I was instantly asleep. Ah, memories.

With just walking I was able to fit in anything I wanted. Even a swimsuit! I made better choices while eating but I didn't count calories and didn't feel guilty when I splurged. Walking felt so good that I'd wake Chuck up to go walking with me even if we went on a little vacation. I looked and felt terrific. I had so much energy that I was bouncing off the walls. LOL

Did you know that you burn about the same amount of calories per mile regardless if you are walking or running? Running just burns the calories quicker because you get through that mile quicker. It ticks me off that running hurts right now but I'm not giving up on it. I just think it would be unwise for me to try to keep pushing it when it hurts so badly.

Chuck and I will be walking in the evenings this week but wake up early this weekend to try to get on a morning schedule. Next week I'd like to get up early with him (4:30 am!) and walk for 30 minutes then come home and have some coffee together before he goes to work. Maybe eventually we can get up at 4am so we can walk an hour together before he leaves. It will be good for both of us. I'd like to walk between 4-6 miles per day. Yesterday I didn't walk because I was totally exhausted. I had trouble keeping my eyes open.

I haven't made up many new recipes lately. Just the old standards. Tonight I'll be making a lower calorie version of Tater Tot Casserole. I'll post a pic tomorrow and a recipe. My family loves this stuff. I usually make it with ground beef but tonight I'll be using ground turkey.

One other thing: I've noticed that I've been getting a lot of comments in Chinese or some other language that I can't read. I'm not sure what they say so I'm going to start deleting them. Not trying to offend anyone and I appreciate comments but these could say something vulgar or have a link to something I'd rather not share.

Raining "Cats" and Dogs

Rain, rain, go away.

It's 4th of July weekend and I had to go to the grocery store before the holiday shopping began which put me shopping in the middle of a tropical storm (actually the remnants of a hurricane). The bright side is that the store was practically empty except for some hard core shoppers.

I was able to get in and get out but not before picking up a couple of items as a little reward (hey, I went out shopping in the rain! That deserves something, right?).
The "Drop a Size without Dieting" title caught my attention so I had to have it. Big disappointment. They want me to exercise to drop that size. Sure wish I would have read that before I bought it. :)

Actually it has some decent exercises that require the stretchy band. They want you to go to a track and do walk intervals (stretchy band hanging around your neck) and then stop to do strength training reps. Walk, strength, walk, strength, etc. Then there are exercises that you are supposed to do in the grass. I don't know if I have enough self confidence to do high knees, Frankenstein walk and walking lunges in public. We'll see. I'd love to drop a size!

The Cooking Light has some awesome recipes that I can't wait to try but don't really want to cook. In other words, they look great but I don't want to spend time in the kitchen. That macaroni and cheese recipe just might coax me though. :)


Friday was a very rainy day. I found out that Rachel was eligible to get her Learner's Permit now so I dragged her out of the house kicking and screaming. For some reason my sweet girl lacks self confidence in her abilities. She was afraid of failing the test. I assured her she would do just fine and that she has never failed at anything she has ever tried. She was not seeing the bright side of things on this rainy day. I drove to the DMV while Rachel complained and Electric Light Orchestra sang "Don't Bring Me Down" on the radio. Nice touch.

We ran through the rain into the office. Wait in line. We have the wrong birth certificate. The hospital one won't do. Drive 8 miles to another office and get the right birth certificate printed (for the low fee of $25) and head back to the DMV in the deluge. Rachel takes the test and passes with flying colors. She was so excited! So y'all beware: my daughter now has a permit to drive.

On the way home the rain started to come down so hard that I had trouble seeing the road. When I got home our road was flooded and I couldn't get to our house. I drove slowly down one road thinking I'd make it but the water was getting higher so I drove up in someone's driveway to wait it out. Chuck walked out into the street and said he thought I could get to our drive. Slowly I made my way down the river that was once my road and made it to my drive. Whew!

Even with the flooding and road closures, Rachel's driving class was still going to be held. By the time she had to go our street had drained and we were able to take her.

Chuck's parents are out of town helping clean out Grandpa's house so we went to feed their cat. Their street had water over it but we were able to make it without any trouble.

While Chuck fed their cat, Charlie and I looked for critters in the ditch and in the water in their yard. Their entire driveway was underwater. I spotted something swimming and thought it was a tadpole. Cool! We'd catch one and bring it home to watch it change into a toad.

It wasn't a tadpole. They had baby catfish swimming in their yard! I was able to catch 11 of them with my hands. We brought them home and watched them for a while then released them into the lake near our home. Not sure how they got in their yard. Maybe it was raining cats. :)

It looks like the rain has subsided so hopefully I'll be able to get out for some exercise.

Hip Hop

My Life with Exercise:

I have not been out exercising as consistently as I should. Shame on me!! And I feel so good when I do. I know I sound like a broken record but things have been incredibly busy around here. Plus we have a lovely storm that has decided to park on top of our house. Thanks, Alex! I might go out walking in the rain just for fun.

I do have some running news. Chuck hears me complain about it often but it's not something I like to talk about here. Every time I run (and especially after races, it seems) my hips hurt in the sockets for a few days afterwards. Bad! I usually just think that the cause is my inexperience as a runner. I have the right shoes and I run on a gravel track now. But now the hip joints are kind of achy even though I didn't run. The weather change, maybe?

It hit me yesterday: I totally forgot that I was born breech and both of my legs were out of socket and behind my head. My mom says it looked very strange because my legs were up by my arms on my back. I had to wear a brace and sometimes a leg would pop back out of socket. The last time it popped out was when I was two. The doctor told her I might have trouble later on and that arthritis was a possibility.

I've always had trouble with my legs. My knees turn in. I'm pigeon toed. Until I was 18 sometimes I would lose feeling and control in my legs and just drop to the ground. It was the strangest thing. It's like they just weren't there anymore.

So it has me wondering if some of my hip pain may be from all of that. I don't know. I'm thinking about getting it checked out though. Maybe I need to lose some more weight before it stops hurting. Ugh, I hate limitations!


My Eats:

Eats have been going pretty well. I did make the mistake of trying those Nature Valley Nut Clusters. Oh my! Those things are addictive. Advice: grab your serving then tape the bag shut and put it far away.

I've also been trying some new recipes. Last night I made the most awesome dinner: Chicken and Rotini Pasta with Vodka Cream Sauce; Zucchini Boats with Goat Cheese and Sun Dried Tomatoes; Light garlic bread.
The recipes for the zucchini and pasta are in the book The Most Decadent Diet Ever. Everything I have made from that book has been delicious. Try the potato chip crusted chicken. My family loves it!

I haven't been counting calories but just trying to eat things that I know are healthier. Well, I do have a little indulgence from time to time. I always have. :)

If this doesn't work for me, then I'll go back to counting calories. It's just such a pain in the arse sometimes.


My Life:

Rachel will be getting her Learner's Permit very soon. She's taking Driver's Ed at a local driving school. She hates it. Don't think I'm petty but I can't stand bad grammar. I know I'm not perfect but when a teacher says, "We ain't got no mo," it worries me. My sarcastic side wants to tell her that she just used a double negative which means she does have more. I've never read How to Make Friends and Influence People. :)

We also had Chuck's grandfather's funeral on Monday. It was a nice service. When we got there I took the kids one way while Chuck went another because he was a pall bearer. Unfortunately I entered the wrong door. I came in right by the open casket. Freakin' hell. My kids didn't want to see their grandfather dead in a casket. I tried to run passed without stopping for "hellos" but I know Rachel saw him and it made things difficult for her. Other than that it was a nice service given by a Presbyterian minister in a Lutheran church. Diversity.

As a mean mom, I'm also doing school with the kids through the summer. I know. How terrible of me! But it's not too bad and I haven't heard many complaints.

We were supposed to go camping this weekend but Hurricane Alex decided to come for a visit. We could have still gone but I don't want to be trapped in a travel trailer with the kids for 3 days. If it were just Chuck and I, it would be a different story. Charlie is a hurricane himself and would be going crazy.

Today my life will consist of grocery shopping, school, driver's ed, reading and laundry.
